Tons of Runs is compiling a publication that celebrates individual Australian cricketers’ scores of 100+ in official competition. The publication, capped at 1,750 pages, will not be the sole domain of players who have excelled at the highest levels. While the batting deeds of elite cricketers are greatly admired, Tons of Runs exists equally for city, suburban and rural cricketers, providing an avenue to be immortalised in a national register alongside your heroes. Moreover, the ToR register will serve as an important archival reference that is long overdue.
Sourcing 100s dating from the 1880s, data collection will be onerous, requiring assistance from state/territory cricket authorities, district and association office bearers and, ultimately, secretaries of cricket clubs. Online submissions are also welcome. At a later date, these will be verified by ToR, in concert with club officials. In the pursuit of data, the objective is to cast the net wide and obtain scores of 100+ from all the grades (both Men’s and Women’s) in the long, medium and short forms of the game.
The ToR publication will retail in the region of $70.00–$80.00. Primarily presented as a mono publication, attractive colour inserts with a rich variety of photographic/artwork features will enhance the book. A selection of narrations by the sport’s ‘weekend warriors’ promises to be an eagerly awaited highlight, as will the accounts of luminaries who have agreed to pen their thoughts on the art of batting. Memorabilia, batting averages, and other facts and figures will round out the comprehensive publication. In short: a world first!
Certificate of AchievementTons of Runs will provide a FREE, high-quality A4 Certificate of Achievement to each listed cricketer who purchases a copy of the book. Data retrieval deadline (15 August 2009)The initial publication reflects scores of 100+ to the end of the cricket 2007/2008 season. A publishing cut-off point is necessary, in order for ToR to cycle through the various stages of dissemination, retrieval, compilation, data management (throughout), and production. All data for the initial publication, whether provided by cricket club secretaries, or via online submissions, is to be with Tons of Runs by 15 August 2009 and prepared to the designated template. Launch date of the initial publication1 December 2009 BiennialsCricketers who score 100+ during 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 seasons won’t be excluded from ToR—those deeds will appear in the inaugural ToR Biennial being released in early 2011. The Biennial makes no attempt to update the original publication, serving as a stand alone publication that captures the data from this two-year period. Further Biennials will be released in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, etc, and each will publish the data from the previous two-year period. Ten-Yearly updateAn opportunity will present at the 10-year mark for all Biennial information to be combined to the initial All-Inclusive publication. Considering the magnitude of such a publication, the ten-yearly ToR update would most likely materialise as an online E-publication.
